The Center for Strategic Futurist Thinking concerns itself with three areas:
economic and business development; global trends of general interest and Jewish issues.
Welcome to my website. I want to share with you my thinking – past, present and future – about three areas that have preoccupied me throughout my entire life.
The first and most immediate has been my identity as a non-religious Jew and how that relates to the future of the Jewish people. I utterly reject the "Nation that Dwells Alone" syndrome of many Jews who partition the entire universe into Jews and non-Jews.
Consequently I often give precedence to global issues rather than to ethnocentric preoccupations that ignore global context and constraints. Since Jews are indubitably part of the human race – a fact that might shock both anti-Semites and some provincial Jews – there will be no future for our people if there is no future for the entire human race. In this context I have written extensively about areas as diverse as the energy/environment conundrum, policy in the post-industrial (post-bureaucratic?) age and constitutionalism as the ultimate 'ism' of global governance – the 'ism' that has prevailed over all the other 'isms' of the 20th century.
Finally, and in the end perhaps most important for my intellectual legacy, I have been totally consumed by a worldview I have renamed 'Cosmodeism' – the brainchild of my late friend and intellectual mentor Mordechai Nessyahu, who saw evolution as the grand paradigm of existence and thus perceived that conscious life will eventually evolve into a hyper-consciousness; that the Cosmos will evolve into Godness.
In ways in which I cannot completely explain, all three areas have become intertwined and compose one whole of my intellectual identity. In all three areas my approach has been historical and strategic: how to avoid airy-fairy speculation in order to devise practical strategies to get "from here to there", to achieve a desired future in any given field. I stress desired because I advocate volitional futurism – the future you want to happen, not the future you think will happen. The future depends on us and any future we can "imagineer" we can create as long as it does not contradict the laws of nature or ignore the fundamental trends of the global economy and post industrial technology.
“…only decadent peoples, on the way down, feel an urgent need to mythologize and live in their past. A vigorous people, on the way up, is more concerned with visions of its future…”
Arthur Lewis, African American Nobel Prize winner in Economics
Human beings require a heroic vision of their future in order to realize their full potential and stimulate the imagination and energy required to solve problems and create an ever more perfect civilization.
Evolution is the Grand Paradigm of Existence: the Cosmos is evolving into Godness. Our individual existence is an essential part of the "Godding" of the Cosmos and thus our collective and individual existence is cosmically significant.
